Agriculture provides stability amid economic downturn

The Magic Valley economy is strongly influenced by agriculture similar the to Treasure Valley. Supply and demand has a large effect on prices as does the cost of production. If it weren’t for this stabilizing force in the area economy we would feel greater effects from the economic downturn. An Idaho Press Tribune article stated, “the Treasure Valley’s agriculture players have continued churning out wheat, meat, milk and other essentials as other industries stumble through their biggest slump in decades. Profit margins are down because of softened worldwide demand during the recession, but employment numbers remain stable, according to Boise State University economist Don Holley.” The entire article can be read at Idaho Press Trubune

The Thousand Springs Festival is being held again this weekend in the Hagerman Valley. This fun event that is in its 17th year features Idaho artistans, live music, food, beverages, fly fishing booth, activities for the kids. The Ritter Island paradise and the surrounding waterfalls can also be enjoyed on wagon rides and canoeing. Come visit the Hagerman Valley and this special treat that it offers anually. Hagerman Wildlife Management Area Hunt for First-Time Hunters

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is offering an opportunity to participate in a youth hunt at the Hagerman Wildlife Management Area. Great use of our licensing fees!!! The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is offering a waterfowl hunt for first-time hunters in November at the Hagerman Wildlife Management Area.
This hunt is open to all 2009 hunter education graduates who are 10 years or older. Prospective hunters need to apply by Oct. 1. More Information
Gooding County Labor Profile

The Idaho Department of Labor reports in their Gooding County Profile that “the improvement in the unemployment rate and civilian labor force has been remarkable in Gooding County over the last 10 years.” Their charts indicate that the Gooding County unemployment rate for August 2009 is 6.4 which is 2.4% below the 8.8% rate for the State of Idaho

Idaho Power proposes sales agreement with wind projects
